As a fractional CMO, I know how valuable a trusted marketing leader can be to an organization, and there’s nothing more satisfying than seeing our clients benefit from our partnership!
Here, I’m sharing how fractional CMO services helped one rural hospital build a solid strategy, stay true to their plan, and grow their marketing efforts. Read on to learn how partnering with a trusted marketing leader helped our client, Mountrail County Health Center, level-up their marketing efforts, connect with their community, and prepare for a major building project.

Mountrail County Health Center (MCHC) provides quality health care services to their community in Mountrail County, ND and the surrounding area.
Their services include primary medical care, emergency care, swing bed, and clinic services. In addition to a hospital and clinic, their campus also hosts assisted living and independent living apartments, an aquatic and wellness center, and a newly built nursing home.
MCHC also has a fundraising arm — the Mountrail County Health Foundation — which provides avenues for donors to help ensure critical access to quality healthcare in the region. The foundation helped make the new nursing home possible, and is currently working to raise funds to expand services at the MCHC hospital and build additional rooms for the assisted living facility.

Mountrail needed a strategy and a solid marketing plan, both for their existing clinic offerings and for the huge facility upgrade they were planning. MCHC was preparing for a $53 million construction project, and they would be raising that money entirely through donations — which meant that a strong connection with their community was crucial.
Stephanie Everett, MCHC’s previous Marketing Director, had stepped into the roles of both CEO and Foundation Director. Her time for planning and strategizing their marketing efforts was limited and she needed a partner to come alongside her, understand what was needed, and execute an effective plan.
When Steph came to us she was overwhelmed with all the hats she was wearing and knew she needed a trusted partner to help her level-up their marketing efforts and maintain consistent communication with the surrounding community. As an experienced marketer with a true love for marketing, it was critical that she find a partner she could trust to take the reins.

After our first meeting with Steph, we quickly determined that our fractional CMO services would be the best fit for MCHC’s needs.
With a seat at the table, we were able to bring them the level of consistency they needed to move forward. One big challenge of rural critical access hospitals is that they are busy. Every day is different, and it’s not uncommon for the day’s plans to change multiple times before 8am. By laying out the strategy and consistently bringing the team back to it when timelines or tasks took us off track, we were able to keep things moving forward.
In addition to creating this grounding strategy, we worked to elevate their brand and level-up their marketing with elements like QR codes, email marketing, and digital flipbooks — helping them appeal to the younger generations moving to their area.

Two years later, MCHC’s building project is well underway (their new nursing home just opened on March 4th!), with two more years to go. In that time, we've helped the MCHC team by not only brainstorming ways for the community to get involved in fundraising, but also putting together a fundraising contest for their staff.
We've also helped them sharpen all their marketing efforts, including social media, mailers, and email marketing. Each month, they highlight specific health awareness days, publicly thank and celebrate their staff, and promote their services … all through multiple channels.
Working together has helped them grow and prepare for the successful launch of their new buildings.
We asked Steph to share with us how she’s felt about our collaboration, and she said:
“Wild Fig Marketing has been simply amazing to work with. Kari and Sondra are a breath of fresh air to partner with, a highly gifted team that can take on an entire health center’s marketing with ease, flair, and originality. I love how technology allows entities to collaborate with outstanding talent, regardless of where you are located!” — Stephanie Everett, Mountrail County Health Center CEO
